for my ACT-mates ( ACT V)

Critical opinion on the process of preparation for the drama of your own group

the group did a lot of rehearsals and preparations. First, we divided the roles to each of the members which turned out to be difficult because the Act has many characters to fit in while the group has only six members. The worst is, every character got to talk or to be together in each scene. For example, one of us played Albany at the same time King Lear, they have dialogue in the last scene, so we really need to change the character each scene.

Next step is to rehearse the script or to practice with the script on. Every English period, the adviser gave us the time to rehearse so we waste no time but to master who’s going to be next after the next one. And the funny part is when the line is long, we just say “Break it down” to finish the line or we just read the first line then the last line to make it short. But that’s only in the rehearsal.

Then next, after mastering or memorizing some of the lines, we required each to say the lines without looking at the script so that it seems we have memorized the lines. Luckily, most of the group memorized their own and that we didn’t to tell them that they’re next. Then we tried to make the accent British for practice. Well, it’s not that bad.

Next, we tried to mix it with actions or directions. One of us stood as the director which tells them what to do in that line and luckily for the director, the actors are obedient.

Then the last day before the actual presentation of the act, even though something commotion happened, the group got to discuss what props and costumes they’re going to bring the next day and practiced the play for the last time.

Finally, on the actual presentation, we did our very best to deliver the lines well and acted as best as we could. But nervousness never really got out of your system, so certain errors were made. But it’s okay for me. The bonding and the enjoyment we shared during rehearsals are worth it.

We got this joke after the end of classes that Act V must stay because we’re going to practice for the play. And my group mates will just ride in. Even that makes my heart smile.
